No me cabe la menor duda que las mejores madreñes de todo el mundo son las que hacen los madreñeirus astures, por lo tanto estos artesanos les comen la palmeta todos los demás. Las mejores madreñas son las que se hacen de madera de nogal, y no rollizas sino por lo menos de cuartarón. Existen muchas formas de madreñas en mi querida Tierrina, depende de que parte de Asturias sean los madreñeros que las encalden, hay madreñes quirosanas que son exteriormente más rústicas y punteagudas, pero que en duda ponga que haya otra clase de madreñas que las gane en tener la caja del pie mejor hecha, luego están las madreñas teverganas que son muy parecidas a las alleranas, son más chatas y atongainas (curiosas). Las madreñes de mi Tierrina llevan o mejor dicho se apoyan en tres tacones, uno en el calcaño y los otros dos en la parte delantera. Existen madreñas que en la parte delantera también llevan un solo taco alargado que cubre todo el ancho de la madreña, estas son llamadas madreñas de ferraxe, son usadas principalmente por los vaquerius, porque se agarran mejor al terreno, a las pedreras, y esto es así porque en vez de llevar dos clavos que son diferentes a los otros que llevan las madreñes de tres tacus.
